What is Copywriting and how it can help your business?

Not sure what copywriting is? Don’t worry, you’re not alone.

When I tell people I’m a copywriter, I’m often met with blank stares as it's not a term we hear in everyday vernacular.

Copywriting is any persuasive writing that calls your audience to action. The point of copywriting is to write so persuasively that the audience can’t help but take the action you are instructing them to take. Basically, Judith Charles nailed it when she said: “A copywriter is a salesperson behind a keyboard.”

And as a copywriter, I help businesses in a couple of very significant ways.

  1. Clarity - Good copywriting is clear and concise. It does not confuse the audience. There is a clear call to action that the target audience feels compelled to take.

  2. Connection - Good copywriting will create a connection with the audience. They will think “how did you know I thought that? How did you know that’s the exact problem I have been struggling with? Are you reading my thoughts?” And then “this is exactly what I need! This is the product or service I have been looking for! Where do I put in my credit card number?” Good copywriting will create an intimate connection with the audience. Your customers will feel seen and heard and supported. They will be invited into a story that ends with them purchasing your product or service.

  3. Call to Action - The point of copywriting is to call your audience to action. And you get to decide what action aligns with the best business strategy that works for your business. What do you want your audience to do? Most websites have a direct call to action: Buy Now, Shop Now, Add to Cart, and a transitional call to action Join your list, download this free article/ebook/recipe bundle in exchange for an email address (so you can start a relationship and sell eventually).

  4. Cha-Ching! Investing in copywriting will help you make more money. People will judge your business based on your website and it’s not just about having a beautiful site, it’s about business strategy and clear, persuasive copywriting. A beautiful design will only take you so far, but if you are not clearly communicating how you will solve your customers problems, who you are and what they need to do to work with you, you are leaving money on the table.

  5. Investing in professional copywriting is a lot cheaper than hiring a salesperson. Your website is accessible 24/7. People can be looking at it at 3:00 am and deciding if they want to do business with you or not. A website with clear and persuasive copywriting, that has a direct call to action will bring you leads and direct sales. And if you set up an email list, and use email marketing, you can start nurturing that relationship so that people will want to buy from you.

It all starts with having the right words on your site, that are clear, concise and persuasive. You must have a direct call to action and tell your audience what they need to do to work with you.

Are you happy with the words on your website? Are they clearly communicating your business? Do you have compelling copy that is generating more leads and direct sales?

If not, I’d love to help you out. Send me an email or give me a call. And stick around for more tips on how to write compelling copy that showcases your business.

Happy Writing,

Becky

P.S.

The majority of entrepreneurs are overwhelmed by writing about their business, which is preventing their growth. I offer clear and meaningful writing that small businesses can be proud of, so they can confidently showcase their company, attract customers and increase profits.
